Balors are considered by some to be proto-demon lords and as such balors refuse to be on the losing side of anything. They align themselves with powerful Demon Lords, earning and sharing great power withen the Abyss. Some balors accquire territory of their own but lack the ability to shape a layer to their will and become its lord, these balors share territory with other balors ruling as minor princes, but never for long.
